Powerhouse Boards: Building Strong, Effective Nonprofit Boards

Strong boards don’t happen by accident — they’re built with clarity, confidence, and shared responsibility. Powerhouse Boards is a two-part online training designed for nonprofit board members and staff who work closely with boards and want to strengthen governance, leadership, and impact.

Hosted by Nonprofit Learning Center and led by experienced nonprofit educator Nancy Bacon, this interactive series focuses on practical tools and real-world strategies that participants can put to work right away.

Through guided discussion, breakout sessions, and applied learning, participants will explore what makes boards effective — and how to move from good intentions to strong, mission-aligned action.

Topics include:

  • Recruiting and engaging diverse, mission-aligned board members

  • Clarifying board and staff roles and responsibilities

  • Strengthening governance and accountability practices

  • Building purposeful committees and productive meetings

  • Supporting board involvement in fundraising and strategic work

All registered participants will receive recordings of both sessions, a digital Powerhouse Boards Workbook, and six months of access to course materials.
